Definitions

Q.1 What is Natural Gas.
A.1 Natural gas is mainly methane-CH4 with a small percentage of other higher hydrocarbons. The ratio of carbon to hydrogen is least in methane and hence it burns almost completely making it the cleanest fuel. It is procured from the oil/gas wells and transported through a network of pipelines across the country.

Q.2 What is PNG?
A.2 PNG is Piped Natural Gas. It is the same natural gas which is brought up to the kitchen appliance at the consumer end through a Pipe Line network. PNG is supplied continuously, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

Q.3 Where is NG stored?
A.3 NG is not stored at one place but is continuously supplied through pipelines mainly Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) Pipeline of GAIL.

Q.4 Is Piped Natural Gas, as a domestic fuel, better than LPG?
A.4 Yes. Natural Gas is a user friendly, economic, safer and non-polluting petro fuel. It is theoretically 10% cheaper than domestic LPG. It does not require booking of refill, chasing up delivery, hassles of facing delivery boys, storage space etc. There are no chances of pilferage. PNG is safer as compared to LPG due to its light weight nature. In the event of leakage, it dissipates immediately in the air. The supply of NG can be easily controlled by various safety checks/valves installed in the system.

Q.5 Is the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) regular?
A.5 Yes, supply is absolutely regular. The pipeline distribution network is based on an on- line supply system that consists of safety valves and regulators that control and monitor the gas supply and pressure, and assist in identifying system leaks. Thus, an un- interrupted supply at a constant pressure is assured.

Q.6 Is it required to change the LPG appliances for switch over to Piped Natural Gas ?
A.6 PNG works on a cooking appliance just like LPG does. It is not required to change the LPG appliances, with minor modifications in LPG appliances, done by trained CUGL technician can be converted to PNG.

Q.7 What to do with the LPG cylinders after the cooking appliances gets converted?
A.7 The LPG connections can be surrendered to the respective oil company and security deposit refund obtained.

Q.8 What is domestic Piped Natural Gas connection?
A.8 A domestic PNG connection includes laying of pipe line network up to appliance along with necessary fittings, pressure regulator, meter and conversion of LPG appliance to PNG.

Q.9 What is the use of domestic PNG?
A.9 Domestic PNG has multiple uses in the residential houses. It can be used for cooking, space heating, air-conditioning, power generation.

Q.10 How can one register for Domestic PNG supply?
A.10 Consumer can register for PNG supply by paying non-refundable connection charges and any other charges as determined by CUGL from time to time. Connection charge is currently Rs. 5000/- per connection which can be paid in following stages:

    a. Rs. 500.00 at the time of registration.
    b. Rs. 2000.00 prior to the commissioning of project activities.
    c. Rs. 2500.00prior to the commissioning of Gas supply.

PNG supply shall be based on techno-commercial viability of laying pipeline in the society/area. Terms and condition shall apply.

Q.11 What supporting documents will be required for registration for PNG?

A.11 Consumer will have to apply to Central UP Gas Ltd. on a prescribed format with following documents:

        Latest House Tax Receipt Or Electricity Bill Receipt or Water Tax receipt or Ration Card; and
        PAN Card or Voter ID-Card issued by EC or Driving License.

Q.12 What will be the mode of payment?

A.12 All charges, payments are to be made in the form of either a A/C payee local Cheque or Banker’s Cheque or Pay Order issued in the favour of CENTRAL UP GAS LIMITED, payable at Kanpur.

Q.13 Is there any damage on wall or floor during pipeline laying inside the home?

A.13 PNG pipeline inside house is not allowed to be concealed as per safety norms. Pipeline will run on the surface of the wall. At places where pipeline needs to be crossing a wall, a small hole to suit the dia of pipeline/sleeve shall be made in the wall. There will be minimum cutting of the wall. Floor, tiles in the kitchen will not be cut for concealing the pipeline. Laying of pipe line will be done after discussion with the owner at time of laying. Owner will be required to provide most economical and shortest route for pipeline up to the kitchen.

Q.14 When the Gas supply will start? 

A.14 About 4-6 months from the day techno-commercially feasible percentage (say80%) of the population of your area/locality is registered for PNG.

Q.15 What would be the type of billing and payment system? 

A.15 Billing for PNG used is done on bi-monthly basis as per actual gas consumed by the consumer. Bill will be prepared on the basis of readings of the meter installed at consumer end and delivered at the door-step of the consumer by CUGL. Consumer is desired to pay the gas bill through cash or A/C Payee local Cheque at any of the HDFC Bank branches across the Kanpur or conveniently located Drop Boxes at HDFC Bank ATMs’ and Drop Boxes available at our Makdikhera, Fazalganj and Juhi CNG Stations etc.

Q.16 Is there nominal charges on monthly basis? 

A.16 A minimum bill amount of Rs. 100.00 on bi-monthly basis will be charged from each domestic house under two conditions.

            If there is no consumption of gas for one billing cycle of two months.
            If the consumption of gas is less than Rs 100/- for one billing cycle of two months.

Q.17 How can I resolve my billing related complains?

A.17 Customer can call on our customer care No. 0512-6551111 and register their complains. Billing related complains/issues/queries shall be resolved and settled by the next billing cycle based on the financial reconciliation received from the bank. Q.18 Who supplies PNG in Kanpur? 

A.18 Central UP Gas Limited (CUGL) supplies PNG to Domestic, Commercial, Industrial and Automobile Sectors in the City of Kanpur. CUGL has mandate to supply NG in Kanpur & Bareilly.
